Ancient trees are important natural，historical and cultural heritages with extremely important ecological, cultural and social values, known as living cultural relics. Tianzhushan UNESCO Global Geopark has taken multiple measures to strengthen the protection and management of ancient and famous trees, to promote the identification and listing of ancient and famous trees in an orderly manner, and to actively strengthen publicity, management, protection and scientific utilization.

The first measure is to conduct basic investigations. According to the statistics, 160 trees of 23 species and 14 families can be included in the ancient tree protection list in Tianzhushan (excluding the ancient tree group). Among them, Pinus taiwanensis has the largest number of 94. Liquidambar formosana, Celtis sinensis and Sabina chinensis can also be found in Tianzhushan UGGp. Among them, there are 4 first-grade ancient trees of 4 species, 15 second-grade ancient trees of 8 species, and 141 third-grade ancient trees of 20 species.

The second is to improve the explanation system. Recently, visitors to Tianzhushan UNESCO Global Geopark have found that many towering trees have new identity cards. Tianzhushan UGGp has upgraded its plant signage system. The new signage takes the owl as the background and expresses the theme of harmonious coexistence of animals and plants. Pinyin and QR code information have been added. At the same time, explanatory boards about water system, vegetation distribution, rare and endangered plants and key protected plants have been set up on the important platforms.

The third is to carry out research on ancient and famous trees. Tianzhushan UGGp has cooperated with Anhui University and Anqing Normal University to carry out research on ancient and famous trees protection project. In recent years, a number of research topics have been carried out, and the next step is to plan to carry out research on water use mechanism of Pinus taiwanensis.

The fourth is scientific protection. Ancient and famous trees protection experts from Anhui Province were invited to formulate protection policies. The protection concept of "one tree, one policy" has been practiced, and the protection measures of "daily protection, regular monitoring, expert consultation, emergency response, and scientific management and protection" have been standardized and implemented. A biological protection system has been set up, and scientific research and monitoring activities related to biodiversity conservation have been continuously carried out. Ancient and famous trees databases and archives have been set up on the Wisdom Tianzhushan platform to check and evaluate the growth of ancient and famous trees on a regular basis.
