Activities Forecast of World Earth Day 2023 in Tianzhushan UNESCO Global Geopark

April 22, 2023 is the 54th World Earth Day, and the theme of this year's Earth Day is "Cherish the Earth, Harmony between Man and Nature". To further guide the whole society to establish the ecological civilization concept of "respecting nature, adapting to nature and protecting nature", promote the construction of beautiful Qianshan, and jointly build an earth home where people and nature live in harmony, Tianzhushan Global Geopark and Shuzhou Primary School of Qianshan City will jointly hold a series of thematic publicity activities for the World Earth Day 2023.

International Symposium on Terrestrial Paleocene Biota and Paleobiogeography Is Held in Tianzhushan Geopark

On June 3-5, 2015, International Symposium on Terrestrial Paleocene Biota and Paleobiogeography, jointly hosted by Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology (IVPP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Tianzhushan Global Geopark, was held in Qianshan County, Anhui Province. Nearly 30 experts and scholars from China, America and France participated in the academic discussion and communication.

Relevant leaders and guests from the government of Qianshan County, Tianzhushan Geopark Administration Committee and Qianshan Museum attended the opening ceremony. Deputy director Deng Tao of IVPP, CAS and deputy mayor Cao Liquan of the people’s government of Qianshan County made speeches. Wang Yuanqing and Zhang Zhaoqun, researchers of IVPP, CAS, Professor Philip D. Gingerich from Museum of Paleontology and University of Michigan, Professor K. Christopher Beard from Biodiversity Institute & Dept. of Ecol. & Evol. Biology and University of Kansas, Professor Meng Jin from American Museum of Natural History, Professor Tong Haiyan from Paleontological Research and Education Centre and Mahasarakham University and other experts successively made academic reports. Participants actively made communication and discussion on the research progress of the terrestrial Paleocene Biota and Paleobiogeography in recent years.

In addition, experts investigated main fossil localities, the granite landform and stone-carved inscriptions of Tianzhushan Global Geopark, putting forward many constructive suggestions. This symposium was of great significance to promote the scientific research, science popularization and the protection of resources, and promoted the cooperation with scientific research institutions and international communication.
