April 22, 2024 is the 55th World Earth Day, and the theme of this year's Earth Day is "Planet vs. Plastics". In order to thoroughly study and implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, publicize Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization, guide the whole society to establish the concept of ecological civilization of "respecting nature, conforming to nature, and protecting nature", promote the construction of beautiful Qianshan, and jointly build an earth home where man and nature coexist in harmony, Tianzhushan Global Geopark, Anqing Qianshan Ecological Environment Branch and Qianshan Pailou Central Primary School jointly carried out the 55th "World Earth Day" and the 5th Asia-Pacific Geopark Week Science Popularization Campaign. In the form of museum-school cooperation and joint construction and common benefit, Tianzhushan Geopark will give full play to the social education function of the museum and jointly build a "second classroom" for popular science education.
To
promote China’s cultural heritage and strengthen teenagers’ sense of identity
and pride in national traditions, Tianzhushan UNESCO Global Geopark organized a
science-themed educational event titled "Tracing Dragon Boat Festival
Fragrance at Tianzhushan" on May 25, ahead of the upcoming Dragon Boat
Festival. The activity was conducted through open public recruitment.
In
the morning, guided by docents from the Tianzhushan Geopark Museum, children
explored the museum’s three-story exhibition halls, delving into the geopark’s
geological wonders, natural landscapes and profound cultural history.
Later,
science volunteers delivered an engaging lecture titled "The Origins of
the Dragon Boat Festival", using vivid storytelling to explain the
festival’s history, customs, and cultural significance. An interactive Q&A
session further deepened the children’s understanding of the festival’s
traditions and patriotic values.
The
highlight of the event was the hands-on sachet-making workshop. Under the
guidance of volunteers, the children transformed into "junior
herbalists," selecting aromatic herbs like mugwort, peppermint, and
lemongrass from a nine-grid herb station. They blended ingredients based on
personal preferences and health benefits to craft unique festive sachets,
experiencing the joy of intangible cultural heritage preservation. After
completing their creations, the children showcased their sachets with creative
names such as "Study Power Pack" and "Evil-Dispelling &
Blessing Pouch", filling the room with laughter and excitement.
To
conclude, each child shared their reflections on "Dragon Boat Memories in
My Sachet" on camera, expressing cultural insights, hands-on experiences,
or festive wishes, capturing cherished moments from the event.
By
combining museum tours, thematic lectures, and craft activities, the "Tracing
Dragon Boat Festival Fragrance at Tianzhushan" event allowed children to
appreciate the charm of traditional culture through joyful participation and
practical learning. Moving forward, Tianzhushan UNESCO Global Geopark will
continue to organize diverse cultural and educational activities tied to
traditional festivals, offering youth more opportunities to engage with China’s
heritage and ensuring its vitality in the modern era.
