To popularize earth science knowledge and enhance awareness of natural resource conservation, Tianzhushan UNESCO Global Geopark will host a series of science popularization activities for the 57th World Earth Day and the 7th Asia Pacific Geopark Week. Through offline popularization and online interaction, we will explore the mysteries of geology and protect our common homeland.

April 22, 2026 marks the 57th World Earth Day, themed "Cherish Natural Resources, Safeguard a Beautiful China". Centering on the theme, Tianzhushan UNESCO Global Geopark launched a series of activities including science popularization, research practice and expert lectures on campus, aiming to popularize geoscientific knowledge among teenagers and raise their awareness of ecological protection.

On April 22, Tianzhushan UNESCO Global Geopark, in collaboration with multiple departments of natural resources, planning and ecological environment at Anqing and Qianshan levels, as well as Wancheng Primary School, held a themed science popularization event for Earth Day. At the event, certificates of science popularization instructors were issued to volunteers, followed by a group signature campaign "Love the Earth, Start with Me", guiding teachers and students to practice the concept of green environmental protection through concrete actions. Students visited the Tianzhushan Geopark Museum to learn about the geological evolution, biological resources and cultural heritage of Tianzhushan, and then took part in a geological practical course at the research camp, observing rock specimens up close and acquiring geological knowledge through interactive experiences. On the afternoon of the same day, Professor Wu Weiping, a Senior Engineer from the Geological Survey of Anhui, gave a special lecture "The Mysteries of the Earth" at Wancheng Primary School. Combining the unique geological landscapes of Tianzhushan, he vividly explained the Earth’s structure, plate movement, geological changes and resource protection, inspiring students’ enthusiasm for exploring geosciences.

As an important post-conference popular science practice activity of the 3rd Symposium on Earth and Planetary Science Popularization, Education and Research, on April 27, Tianzhushan UNESCO Global Geopark organized an expert team to carry out "Explore Tianzhu Geology · Perceive the Mysteries of the Earth" science popularization activities at Tianzhushan Tourism School, Qianshan Meicheng Primary School, Wancheng Primary School and Tianzhushan Central Primary School. Eight experts from Nanjing University, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Guilin University of Technology, Henan Institute of Geological Sciences and other institutions delivered high quality science classes to nearly 1,000 primary and secondary school students, covering mineral crystals, the Earth’s interior, the formation of Tianzhushan, earthquakes and groundwater, meteorite exploration, the spirit of scientists, salt lake resources and rock knowledge. The activity brought high quality science and education resources directly to campuses, deepening students’ understanding and pride in the local geological features of their hometown.

Integrating science interpretation, hands-on experience and expert lectures, the series of events have effectively improved young people’s scientific literacy and ecological protection awareness. In the future, Tianzhushan UNESCO Global Geopark will continue to serve as a platform for science popularization and education, establish a long-term mechanism for geoscience popularization on campus, and carry out regular geological science and ecological promotion activities, contributing to the advancement of ecological civilization and the joint building of a Beautiful China.
