Anhui Anqing No.1 Middle School was founded in 1906 as Anhui Normal School, and was renamed Anhui Provincial No.1 Normal School and Anhui Provincial No.1 High School before being named Anqing No.1 Middle School in 1956. The school is a member of the UNESCO Club, one of the first major secondary schools in Anhui Province, a model high school in Anhui Province, and a host school for the experimental science classes in high schools in Anhui Province. At present, there are 77 classes in three grades of high school, with nearly 4,000 students.

The school is full of experts and has a rich variety of students. Famous educators such as Yao Yonggai, Wang XingGong, Yang LiangGong, Deng Yizhe and Cheng Yansheng have served as the headmaster. Famous scholars such as Yan Fu, Tao Xingzhi and Hu Shi have lectured to the teachers and students. Since the establishment of the People’s Republic of China, 11 graduates have been awarded the title of National Academician.

In May 2021, Anqing No.1 Middle School was awarded the title of "Science Popularization Demonstration School" by the TianzhushanUGGp. In May 2021, Anqing No.1 Middle School held a "Science Popularization Education Study Events in Tianzhushan UGGp" at the Geopark. In September 2021, on the National Science Day, the park held a lecture on geological science in Anqing No. 1 Middle School on "Entering Tianzhushan UGGp：Telling the Story of the Earth".
