Between Sep the 26th -30th, 2016, the 7th International Conference on UNESCO Global Geoparks was held at the UNESCO English Riviera Global Geopark. Tianzhushan Global Geopark attended the conference. The purpose of the conference was to gather 120 representatives of the UNESCO Global Geoparks, scholars, scientists, members of the Executive Board and government from all over the world to discuss geological relics protection, sustainable economic development, scientific research and community management. The conference included a  themed exhibition, a parallel meeting with the theme“Stay healthy stay positive”and a case study of the best Global Geopark participants. Tianzhushan representative Xie Yihan made a speech with the theme of “Tianzhushan Global Geopark fossil protection strategy” and exchanged ideas with experts, prompting widespread interest.     During the meeting, the GGN executive board meeting and all the members of the general assembly were also held to debate and approve the GGN Association report, GGN regulations and code of ethics, 2016-2020 strategic  planning and standard membership fees in 2017. Chen Xiaoning, deputy director of the Ministry of Land and Resources in Geological Environment Department of the Chinese Government, was made an honorary member of the network.     Tianzhushan representatives engaged in positive exchange and communication with other representatives from all over the world, especially with the representatives from sister park Naturejo Global Geopark, Portugal to share their experience in administration and geological park protection  and look forward to further exchange and cooperation. GGN, as an international partnership supported by UNESCO, was established in 2004 as a volunteer network service for a decade (2004-2014) to support the coordination and promote the concept of the global geopark around the world. GGN has formed geological park operation and management models of best practice and established quality standards for geological relic protection according to the regional sustainable development strategy. Now there are 120 group members (world geological parks), including 33 from China, and 19 individual members. 700 delegates from all over the world have attended the meeting.
