
To popularize earth science knowledge and enhance awareness of natural resource conservation, Tianzhushan UNESCO Global Geopark will host a series of science popularization activities for the 57th World Earth Day and the 7th Asia Pacific Geopark Week. Through offline popularization and online interaction, we will explore the mysteries of geology and protect our common homeland.


From Oct. 31 to Nov. 2, 2019 academic annual meeting
of paleontology society of Anhui Province was held in Tianzhushan Geopark. With
the theme of “the new progress of research and protection of paleontological
fossils and geoheritage in the new era”, the annual meeting summarized and made
exchanges on the achievements and experience of the paleontology research and
protection, research and protection of geological environment and geoheritage,
the development and management of geoparks and geoscientific education made by
four provinces (Anhui, Jiangsu, Henan and Hubei) in recent years, to further promote the disciplinary research, development,
construction and achievement transformation, and to better serve the economic
and social development. More than 120 representatives and experts from universities,
research institutes, natural resources systems, geoparks, geomuseums from Jiangsu,
Henan, Hubei and Anhui provinces attended the meeting.
Hosted by Paleontology Society of Anhui Province, Paleontology
Society of Jiangsu Province, Paleontology Society of Henan Province, Paleontology
Society of Hubei Province and the special science popularization committee of
China paleontology and fossil conservation foundation, the meeting was undertook
by Anhui Geomuseum, Tianzhushan Geopark Administrative Committee and the
natural resources and planning bureau of Qianshan City. China paleontology
society, Anhui provincial association of science and technology, natural
resource department of Anhui Province and Qianshan municipal government
attached great importance to the meeting and gave strong support. Mr. Tu
Gaosheng, general deputy director of Tianzhushan Geopark Administrative
Committee, gave a welcoming speech. Mr. Cai Huawei, secretary general of China
Paleontology Society, Mr. Li Xianbin, second-level inspector of Anhui
Association of Science and Technology, and Mr. Chen Limin, director of natural
resources department of Anhui Province attended the meeting and gave speeches.
The meeting totally received 25 papers or abstract,
covering paleontology, geo-environment, geoheritage protection, the management
and development of geoparks, science popularization and development of
geomuseums, etc. 18 experts, scholars and representatives delivered reports and
exchanges at the meeting, sharing their research achievements and work
experience in recent years from different aspects, such as paleontology and fossil
research, fossil conservation, geoparks construction and geoscience
popularization. Mr. Wang Yuanqing, researcher of institute of vertebrate
paleontology and paleoanthropology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, gave an
academic speech titled “Paleocene strata and vertebrate fossils in Qianshan
Basin and their comparison”. In addition, representatives also made a field
visit to the granite landform of Tianzhushan, Tianzhushan Geopark Museum and two
fossil sites.
