April 22, 2024 is the 55th World Earth Day, and the theme of this year's Earth Day is "Planet vs. Plastics". In order to thoroughly study and implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, publicize Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization, guide the whole society to establish the concept of ecological civilization of "respecting nature, conforming to nature, and protecting nature", promote the construction of beautiful Qianshan, and jointly build an earth home where man and nature coexist in harmony, Tianzhushan Global Geopark, Anqing Qianshan Ecological Environment Branch and Qianshan Pailou Central Primary School jointly carried out the 55th "World Earth Day" and the 5th Asia-Pacific Geopark Week Science Popularization Campaign. In the form of museum-school cooperation and joint construction and common benefit, Tianzhushan Geopark will give full play to the social education function of the museum and jointly build a "second classroom" for popular science education.
As the 29th International Biodiversity Day was
approaching, Tianzhushan UGGp held a series of science popularization activities
to celebrate the day, with the theme of “ Building A Community of Life on Earth”.
On May 20th, Tianzhushan UGGp gave a lecture on birds
in Tianzhushan Geopark Museum. 40 students from Meicheng Central Primary School
listened to the lecture and visited the geopark museum. They learnt different
species and characteristics of birds in Tianzhushan area.
On May 21st, Ms. Song from Anqing Medical College led
30 students to identify and discover surrounding common Chinese herbal
medicines in Qianshuihe National Wetland Park, letting students to get closer
to the nature.
On May 23rd, a lecture on three types of rocks of
Tianzhushan UGGp was given in Pailou Central Primary School. 40 students
attended the lecture and learnt about the granite landform, ultrahigh pressure
metamorphic belt and paleontological fossils of Tianzhushan UGGp. After the
lecture, the students were led to visit Hanchangchong UHP geosite.
This series of science popularization activities aimed
to show biodiversity of Tianzhushan UGGp to students, and upgrade their
awareness to protect the nature and environment.
