To popularize earth science knowledge and enhance awareness of natural resource conservation, Tianzhushan UNESCO Global Geopark will host a series of science popularization activities for the 57th World Earth Day and the 7th Asia Pacific Geopark Week. Through offline popularization and online interaction, we will explore the mysteries of geology and protect our common homeland.

On March 24,
2025 , APGN SDG’s Online Workshop was held to explore the role of Global
Geoparks in achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Under the
theme “UNESCO Global Geoparks and ADGS of the Agenda 2030,” the event
featured insights from over a dozen geopark managers and experts across the
Asia-Pacific region. Ms. Huang Wen, representing China’s Tianzhushan UNESCO
Global Geopark, spotlighted the park’s groundbreaking efforts to advance SDG
6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) through innovative water management and
community-driven initiatives.
In her report
titled “Sustaining Clear Streams, Building a Shared Future,” Ms.
Huang detailed the Geopark’s integrated approach to water conservation. This
includes the establishment of protected water zones, adoption of the “River
Chief System” for localized governance, and educational campaigns to raise
public awareness. By aligning ecological preservation with socio-economic
benefits, geoparks can be catalysts for sustainable development.
The workshop
highlighted cross-border collaboration and shared experience with case studies
spanning 17 SDGs. Participants also reviewed the newly launched 2024 SDGs
Reporting Template, designed to standardize progress tracking and
knowledge-sharing among geoparks.
Tianzhushan
UNESCO Global Geopark pledged to deepen its SDG-focused projects, particularly
in water resource management and community partnerships. Geoparks are living
laboratories for sustainability. Through collective action, UGGps will turn the
ideals of the 2030 Agenda into tangible outcomes.
