To popularize earth science knowledge and enhance awareness of natural resource conservation, Tianzhushan UNESCO Global Geopark will host a series of science popularization activities for the 57th World Earth Day and the 7th Asia Pacific Geopark Week. Through offline popularization and online interaction, we will explore the mysteries of geology and protect our common homeland.
May 18, 2024
marks the 48th International Museum Day, and this year's theme is
"Museums Committed to Education and Research". Tianzhushan Global
Geopark carried out a series of activities to build a bridge between the museum
and the public.

On May 17,
Tianzhushan Global Geopark and Tianzhushan Tourism School jointly held the
second "Little Docents" competition, and 18 students entered the
finals. They gave their own unique explanations on the geological formation, the
biodiversity, the history and profound culture of Tianzhushan. The contestants
were full of emotion, and the colorful commentary made the audience feel
immersive. After fierce competition, 10 outstanding docents were selected into
the volunteer service team of little docents of Tianzhushan Geopark Museum.

This
"Little Docent" activity not only cultivated the children's
humanistic quality and expression ability, but also was a "relay run"
to convey the spirit of volunteerism and cultivate museum volunteers, which
deepened the teenagers' awareness and love for their hometown culture, and
established cultural self-confidence and sense of responsibility.
On May 18, the
unveiling ceremony of Qiuzhi three-star geo-cultural village and the science popularization
activities were held by Doumu Town in Tianzhushan Global Geopark.

The event
introduced the construction of Qiuzhi Geo-Cultural Village in the past three
years, read out the "Letter on Organizing and Carrying out the Geo-Cultural
Village (Town) Awarding Work" of the Geological Society of China, and held
the unveiling ceremony of the three-star geo-cultural village. After the
unveiling ceremony, participants went to the Yangxiaowu fossil site to carry
out popular science activities and disseminate geoscience knowledge.

Qiuzhi Village is
an important scientific investigation area in the southern part of Tianzhushan
Global Geopark. In recent years, in accordance with the basic requirements of
"geology as the foundation, culture as the soul, integration as the key,
and benefiting the people as the foundation", through the in-depth
excavation of the "geology +" model, Qiuzhi village has focused on
three aspects: science education, industrial construction, and eco-tourism to
shape new villages, develop new industries, and create new lives. In 2023, it was
approved as a geological science education base in Anhui Province, and in 2024,
it was selected into the list of rural revitalization demonstration villages in
Anhui Province, and it has been successfully approved as the only three-star
geo-cultural village in Anqing City assessed by the Geological Society of
China.
