April 22, 2024 is the 55th World Earth Day, and the theme of this year's Earth Day is "Planet vs. Plastics". In order to thoroughly study and implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, publicize Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization, guide the whole society to establish the concept of ecological civilization of "respecting nature, conforming to nature, and protecting nature", promote the construction of beautiful Qianshan, and jointly build an earth home where man and nature coexist in harmony, Tianzhushan Global Geopark, Anqing Qianshan Ecological Environment Branch and Qianshan Pailou Central Primary School jointly carried out the 55th "World Earth Day" and the 5th Asia-Pacific Geopark Week Science Popularization Campaign. In the form of museum-school cooperation and joint construction and common benefit, Tianzhushan Geopark will give full play to the social education function of the museum and jointly build a "second classroom" for popular science education.
From May 25th to 29th, the Service Center of Chongqing Tongliang District Youth Comprehensive Practice Base organized more than 100 students from Jiuxian Middle School and Yongjia Middle School to come to Tianzhushan Global Geopark to carry out research and education activities, with the theme of "Studying Anhui Rhyme and Exploring the Beauty of Ancient Arts", and conducted a five-day research trip.
The research team visited the Tianzhushan Geopark Museum, the granite landform area and Yangxiaowu fossil site, and experienced the ancient pottery and tea making skills.
This research activities fully combined research, learning and experience, and let students to have a deeper understanding of the geology, culture and history of Tianzhushan Geopark through ancient pottery making, lacquer fan making, tea picking and tea making experience, wearing Han costumes, performing Han rituals and paleontological fossil collection, among other.
Tianzhushan UGGp is a national popular science education base of Ministry of Natural Resources and a geosciences education base of Geological Society of China. Popular science education activities can popularize the knowledge of geology and nature to the public, especially young people, arouse the public's awareness of caring for the earth and protecting their homeland, and realize the harmonious coexistence between man and nature.
