April 22, 2024 is the 55th World Earth Day, and the theme of this year's Earth Day is "Planet vs. Plastics". In order to thoroughly study and implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, publicize Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization, guide the whole society to establish the concept of ecological civilization of "respecting nature, conforming to nature, and protecting nature", promote the construction of beautiful Qianshan, and jointly build an earth home where man and nature coexist in harmony, Tianzhushan Global Geopark, Anqing Qianshan Ecological Environment Branch and Qianshan Pailou Central Primary School jointly carried out the 55th "World Earth Day" and the 5th Asia-Pacific Geopark Week Science Popularization Campaign. In the form of museum-school cooperation and joint construction and common benefit, Tianzhushan Geopark will give full play to the social education function of the museum and jointly build a "second classroom" for popular science education.
Located in the
southwest of Anhui Province, at the southeast foot of Dabieshan, Tianzhushan is
endowed with natural resources, and it is not only a UNESCO Global Geopark, but
also a National AAAAA Tourist Attraction, a National Forest Park and a natural and
cultural heritage site in China. Qianshan City, where Tianzhushan is located,
is one of the first batch of national key ecological function areas and
national biodiversity protection priority areas, and is one of the areas with
the richest wildlife resources in Anhui Province, with important functions of
soil and water conservation and biodiversity protection. Tianzhushan UGGp has
continuously strengthened biodiversity protection through biodiversity
investigation and assessment, protected areas supervision, biological resources
conservation, publicity and guidance, and has formed a new pattern of
harmonious coexistence between man and nature.
Together with
Anqing Normal University and Anhui University, Tianzhushan UGGp carried out the
background investigation and assessment of biodiversity and terrestrial
ecosystems, animals and plants, insects and biodiversity-related traditional
knowledge within Tianzhushan area, and formed a biodiversity background
investigation and assessment report and the species list database, etc., to
provide objective and real data support for the next step of biodiversity
protection. A total of 1,351 species of higher plants in 703 genera and 206
families, 264 species of vertebrates of 77 families and 26 orders, 4 species of
wild animals and plants under national first-class key protection, and more
than 30 species of wild animals and plants under national second-class key
protection have been recorded.
Tianzhushan UGGp
severely cracks down on the destruction of wild animal and plant resources and
indiscriminate hunting of wild animals, and carries out timely breeding and
protection of precious and rare plants through the establishment of botanical
gardens, forest development bases, seed banks and other protection facilities,
in addition, the geopark establishes a system for the management of species
resource archives, and cooperates with scientific research units to carry out
dynamic monitoring and management of animal and plant resources in protected
areas, and implements resource sharing. On the basis of giving priority to
protection, Tianzhushan Geopark has actively and steadily carried out the
utilization of biological resources and activities concerning undergrowth
economy and forest health care.
Tianzhushan Geopark attaches great importance to education on biodiversity protection and holds training courses on biodiversity monitoring and patrol capabilities, so as to improve employees' awareness and ability to protect biodiversity. With two biodiversity science popularization and publicity bases successively built, namely the Tianzhushan Geopark Museum and the Qianshui River National Wetland Park Publicity and Education Center, Tianzhushan UGGp applies the method of "traditional media + new media" to carry out biodiversity protection publicity activities in campuses, communities and protected areas on World Wildlife Day, World Wetlands Day, Bird Loving Week, World Environment Day and Biodiversity Conservation Day, and disseminates conservation knowledge and relevant laws and regulations, enhancing the public's awareness of biodiversity protection.
