April 22, 2024 is the 55th World Earth Day, and the theme of this year's Earth Day is "Planet vs. Plastics". In order to thoroughly study and implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, publicize Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization, guide the whole society to establish the concept of ecological civilization of "respecting nature, conforming to nature, and protecting nature", promote the construction of beautiful Qianshan, and jointly build an earth home where man and nature coexist in harmony, Tianzhushan Global Geopark, Anqing Qianshan Ecological Environment Branch and Qianshan Pailou Central Primary School jointly carried out the 55th "World Earth Day" and the 5th Asia-Pacific Geopark Week Science Popularization Campaign. In the form of museum-school cooperation and joint construction and common benefit, Tianzhushan Geopark will give full play to the social education function of the museum and jointly build a "second classroom" for popular science education.
On August 21-23,
2024, the annual academic meeting of Anhui Society of Paleontology and Geoheritage
and Jiangsu Paleontological Society was held in Tianzhushan UGGp. The
conference was sponsored by the Anhui Society of Paleontology and Geoheritage
and Jiangsu Society of Paleontology, and co-organized by Tianzhushan Geopark,
Anhui Geomuseum, Chaohu Stratigraphic Paleontology and Geological Environment
Field Observation and Research Station of the Ministry of Natural Resources,
and Anhui Geological Society. More than 130 participants from Anhui and Jiangsu
provinces attended the meeting, including member representatives, experts,
scholars and heads of relevant parties in the fields of colleges and
universities, scientific research institutions, natural resources systems, geology
and mining systems, geoparks and geomuseums. The Anhui Provincial Department of
Natural Resources and the Qianshan Municipal Government attached great
importance to the meeting and gave strong support. Mr. Shu Hanbing, member of
the Standing Committee of the Qianshan Municipal Party Committee and deputy
director of Tianzhushan Geopark Administrative Committee, delivered a speech at
the meeting.
With the theme
of "Research, Protection and Utilization of Paleontology and Geoheritage",
11 experts, scholars and representatives made reports at the meeting, sharing
their research results and work experience in recent years from different
aspects such as paleontological research, fossil protection, geoparks
construction, and geoscience popularization. The meeting specially invited
researcher Wang Jun, chairman of the Chinese Paleontological Society and
director of the Nanjing Institute of Geology and Palaeontology, Chinese Academy
of Sciences, Mr. Wang Yuanqing, researcher of the Institute of Vertebrate
Paleontology and Paleoanthropology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Ren
Dong of Capital Normal University, researcher Zhan Renbin of Nanjing Institute
of Geology and Palaeontology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Yuan Feng
of Hefei University of Technology, and Associate Professor Xing Lida of China
University of Geosciences (Beijing) to make reports. At the end of the reports,
relevant professional training was also carried out.
During the
meeting, the participants also visited the granite landform of Tianzhushan, Tianzhushan
Geopark Museum, Qiuzhi Geo-cultural Village and Yangxiaowu fossil site for
field research and on-site discussions.
