To popularize earth science knowledge and enhance awareness of natural resource conservation, Tianzhushan UNESCO Global Geopark will host a series of science popularization activities for the 57th World Earth Day and the 7th Asia Pacific Geopark Week. Through offline popularization and online interaction, we will explore the mysteries of geology and protect our common homeland.
From October
25th to 27th, 2024, Ms. Hassina Mouri, President of the International Union of
Geological Sciences, visited Tianzhushan Global Geopark after attending the
International Symposium on Deep Earth Exploration and Applications (DEEP-2024)
and had friendly discussions with Mr. Shu Hanbing, member of the Standing
Committee of Qianshan Municipal Party Committee, Deputy Director of Tianzhushan
Administrative Committee, and other members of Tianzhushan UGGp.

President Hassina
Mouri inspected the outcrops of ultrahigh pressure metamorphic rocks at Laolongzui,
Xindian, Bixiling and Hanchangchong geosites, etc., and participated in the exchange
meeting of Tianzhushan Global Geopark. Through the science popularization system
and professional explanations, she learnt about the stories behind these
outcrops, and thanked the Tianzhushan team for their efforts to protect and
popularize these geoheritages.

President Hassina
Mouri is a professor in the Department of Geology at the University of
Johannesburg, South Africa, and has served in many international organizations
such as IUGS, UNESCO, the International Union of Medical Geology, and the
International Science Council, and was elected as the new president of IUGS in
August 2024.
