April 22, 2024 is the 55th World Earth Day, and the theme of this year's Earth Day is "Planet vs. Plastics". In order to thoroughly study and implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, publicize Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization, guide the whole society to establish the concept of ecological civilization of "respecting nature, conforming to nature, and protecting nature", promote the construction of beautiful Qianshan, and jointly build an earth home where man and nature coexist in harmony, Tianzhushan Global Geopark, Anqing Qianshan Ecological Environment Branch and Qianshan Pailou Central Primary School jointly carried out the 55th "World Earth Day" and the 5th Asia-Pacific Geopark Week Science Popularization Campaign. In the form of museum-school cooperation and joint construction and common benefit, Tianzhushan Geopark will give full play to the social education function of the museum and jointly build a "second classroom" for popular science education.

25th to 27th, 2024, Ms. Hassina Mouri, President of the International Union of
Geological Sciences, visited Tianzhushan Global Geopark after attending the
International Symposium on Deep Earth Exploration and Applications (DEEP-2024)
and had friendly discussions with Mr. Shu Hanbing, member of the Standing
Committee of Qianshan Municipal Party Committee, Deputy Director of Tianzhushan
Administrative Committee, and other members of Tianzhushan UGGp.

Mouri inspected the outcrops of ultrahigh pressure metamorphic rocks at Laolongzui,
Xindian, Bixiling and Hanchangchong geosites, etc., and participated in the exchange
meeting of Tianzhushan Global Geopark. Through the science popularization system
and professional explanations, she learnt about the stories behind these
outcrops, and thanked the Tianzhushan team for their efforts to protect and
popularize these geoheritages.

Mouri is a professor in the Department of Geology at the University of
Johannesburg, South Africa, and has served in many international organizations
such as IUGS, UNESCO, the International Union of Medical Geology, and the
International Science Council, and was elected as the new president of IUGS in
August 2024.
