Flying-from-afar  Rock
Category:Introduction of Geosites

Flying-from-afar Peak is the third highest peak of Tianzhushan. At the summit stands a big rock which looks as though it is flying here, so the local people call it “Feilai Rock”, and the inselberg is named after it. Actually the rock is the result of weathering residues. The surface of the peak is controlled by sheet joints, the dome-like inselberg is thus formed.

1.The summit of the granite peak is cut into several rocks by joints.

2. Due to temperature variation and water erosion, the rocks were weathered along joints. Affected by earthquakes and other factors, some of the rocks collapsed and fell down;

3. A rock remains there, and is called “Feilai rock”. The surface of the peak is controlled by sheet joints, the dom-like inselberg is thus formed.
