April 22, 2023 is the 54th World Earth Day, and the theme of this year's Earth Day is "Cherish the Earth, Harmony between Man and Nature". To further guide the whole society to establish the ecological civilization concept of "respecting nature, adapting to nature and protecting nature", promote the construction of beautiful Qianshan, and jointly build an earth home where people and nature live in harmony, Tianzhushan Global Geopark and Shuzhou Primary School of Qianshan City will jointly hold a series of thematic publicity activities for the World Earth Day 2023.
Recently, the report of the 4th
session of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Council was circulated. In September
2019, the UNESCO Global Geoparks Council met in Lombok, Indonesia, to review
the new applications, applications for area extension as well as revalidations
of existing UNESCO Global Geoparks.
Following the review of the Tianzhushan
(China) revalidation report, the UGGpC decided to award a GREEN card with the
following recommendations:
1.
Develop links between geological and the other territorial heritages
(i.e. natural biotic, culture, intangible) through interpretation, education
and tours. Train local guides, tourism operators and local people etc. about
the links between geology and ecology to enable knowledge sharing with
visitors.
2.
Consider improving the UGGp geological information and explanation
inside the education corridors by simplifying interpretations.
3.
Develop a partnership strategy which includes clear methodology and
criteria on becoming a partner, outlining the associated agreements with the
Geopark. This is applicable to accommodation, catering, transport providers,
activity providers and producers of local products, but is not restricted to
those identified. Consider providing these partners and local producers with
greater visibility exploiting the geopark logo and brand as well as specific promotional
material.
4.
Consider providing visitors with interesting information related to the
protection of old trees (Tianzushan Mountain). Explore the possibility of using
new technologies to limit panel size.
UNESCO Global Geoparks are revalidated
every four years, focusing on the management, infrastructure construction,
geoheritage protection, scientific research, science education, community
development and so on. Such kind of dynamic revalidation is conducive to the
sustainable development of UGGps.
