April 22, 2024 is the 55th World Earth Day, and the theme of this year's Earth Day is "Planet vs. Plastics". In order to thoroughly study and implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, publicize Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization, guide the whole society to establish the concept of ecological civilization of "respecting nature, conforming to nature, and protecting nature", promote the construction of beautiful Qianshan, and jointly build an earth home where man and nature coexist in harmony, Tianzhushan Global Geopark, Anqing Qianshan Ecological Environment Branch and Qianshan Pailou Central Primary School jointly carried out the 55th "World Earth Day" and the 5th Asia-Pacific Geopark Week Science Popularization Campaign. In the form of museum-school cooperation and joint construction and common benefit, Tianzhushan Geopark will give full play to the social education function of the museum and jointly build a "second classroom" for popular science education.

In order to
further carry forward the spirit of science, enhance the public's scientific
literacy, and promote the formation of a good social atmosphere of learning,
loving and using science, on September 18, Tianzhushan UGGp and Anqing Qianshan
Ecological Environment Sub-bureau jointly held the national science
popularization day theme activity of "improving the scientific quality of
the whole people and helping science and technology to become self-reliant".
Nearly 300 teachers and students from Tianzhushan Town Central School
participated in the event.
During the
activity, the students visited the exhibition halls of Tianzhushan Geopark
Museum in an orderly manner, and the science popularization volunteers
comprehensively and systematically introduced the knowledge of earth sciences,
the long geological evolution of Tianzhushan, the origin of life, biodiversity
and brilliant folk culture.
The activity
also invited Professor Wu Weiping, a professor-level senior engineer of Anhui
Provincial Institute of Geological Survey, to enter Tianzhushan Town Central
School to carry out a popular science lecture on the theme of "The Mystery
of the Earth", Professor Wu slowly unfolded from the perspective of the
universe, led the students to swim in the ocean of knowledge of the blue
planet, understand the history of the formation and evolution of the earth, the
geomorphological landscape and rocks formed by internal and external dynamic
effects such as crustal movement and volcanic eruptions, look back on the 4.6
billion years of the earth's evolution history and appreciate the infinite charm
of the earth. Students listened attentively, arousing a strong passion for
exploring earth sciences.
The launch of
this activity not only greatly broadened students' horizons and thinking,
cultivated students' scientific aspirations, but also opened a new path of
cooperation between the geopark and schools. In the next step, Tianzhushan UGGp
will give full play to the function of social education, continuously enrich
the content and form of science popularization activities, improve the ability
and level of science popularization services, let science popularization enter
schools and communities, and contribute to the popularization of scientific
knowledge and the improvement of the scientific quality of the whole people in
the new era.
