April 22, 2024 is the 55th World Earth Day, and the theme of this year's Earth Day is "Planet vs. Plastics". In order to thoroughly study and implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, publicize Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization, guide the whole society to establish the concept of ecological civilization of "respecting nature, conforming to nature, and protecting nature", promote the construction of beautiful Qianshan, and jointly build an earth home where man and nature coexist in harmony, Tianzhushan Global Geopark, Anqing Qianshan Ecological Environment Branch and Qianshan Pailou Central Primary School jointly carried out the 55th "World Earth Day" and the 5th Asia-Pacific Geopark Week Science Popularization Campaign. In the form of museum-school cooperation and joint construction and common benefit, Tianzhushan Geopark will give full play to the social education function of the museum and jointly build a "second classroom" for popular science education.
Recently, more than 30 students from the Zhao Jiuzhang Talent Class of the School of Earth and Space Sciences of the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) came to Tianzhushan Global Geopark for a two-day field investigation and internship, which was also the fourth batch of teams from the University of Science and Technology of China to carry out field activities in Tianzhushan UGGp in 2024.
In recent years, Tianzhushan Global Geopark and the School of Earth and Space Sciences of USTC have carried out in-depth and extensive cooperation in many fields such as earth sciences research, talent training and popular science education, and have achieved remarkable results.
Scientific research cooperation Tianzhushan Global Geopark has become an important platform for academic exchanges in the field of geology and earth sciences with its unique geoheritage and rich natural resources. In recent years, Tianzhushan Geopark has co-organized a number of post-conference investigation activities sponsored by USTC, such as the National Symposium on Metamorphic Rocks, the Advanced Seminar on Subduction Zone Magmatic Rocks, the National Symposium on Inclusions and Geological Fluids, and the 18th Annual Conference of the Chinese Society of Mineralogy, Petrology and Geochemistry. These conferences attracted many experts and scholars in the field of geology at home and abroad to visit and discuss the latest progress and hot issues in geosciences. The successful holding of the conferences not only enhanced the popularity and influence of Tianzhushan Global Geopark in the geological community, but also provided a valuable opportunity for the participating experts to exchange and learn from their peers.
Talent cultivation and capacity building As an important internship and practice base of USTC, Tianzhushan Global Geopark provides students with opportunities for geological field investigation and teaching practice. In cooperation with the Geopark, the School of Earth and Space Sciences of USTC organizes students to go to Tianzhushan for field geological investigation and internship. Students learn basic skills such as how to identify rock types, analyze geological structures, and learn about hot issues in the study of Dabieshan. Students learn, practice and grow here, combine theoretical knowledge with practice, and constantly improve their professional skills and comprehensive quality.
Popular science education Professors from USTC were invited to Tianzhushan to carry out popular science reporting activities and popularize earth sciences knowledge. In addition, every summer, Tianzhushan Geopark cooperates with the USTC to carry out the Dabieshan Geological Expedition Summer Camps, which have been held for 15 consecutive sessions, and the summer camps improve students' ability to observe, analyze and solve problems through field geological teaching and popular science education, and stimulate their interest and enthusiasm for learning.
The in-depth integration and cooperation between Tianzhushan Global Geopark and the School of Earth and Space Sciences of USTC will jointly write a new chapter in the development of earth sciences. The two sides will work together to promote the development of geosciences and the popular science education.
