April 22, 2024 is the 55th World Earth Day, and the theme of this year's Earth Day is "Planet vs. Plastics". In order to thoroughly study and implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, publicize Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization, guide the whole society to establish the concept of ecological civilization of "respecting nature, conforming to nature, and protecting nature", promote the construction of beautiful Qianshan, and jointly build an earth home where man and nature coexist in harmony, Tianzhushan Global Geopark, Anqing Qianshan Ecological Environment Branch and Qianshan Pailou Central Primary School jointly carried out the 55th "World Earth Day" and the 5th Asia-Pacific Geopark Week Science Popularization Campaign. In the form of museum-school cooperation and joint construction and common benefit, Tianzhushan Geopark will give full play to the social education function of the museum and jointly build a "second classroom" for popular science education.
From October 25th to 27th, some geologists who participated in the International Symposium on Deep Earth Exploration and Application (DEEP-2024) conducted field investigations in Tianzhushan Global Geopark, led by Professor Wang Qin of Nanjing University and participated by Ms. Hassina Mouri, President of the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS).
The International Symposium on Deep Earth Exploration and Applications (DEEP-2024) held in Beijing was hosted by the China Geological Survey and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and undertaken by the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences and the Laboratory of Deep Earth Science and Exploration Technology of the Ministry of Natural Resources. More than 400 experts and scholars from more than 20 countries and regions at home and abroad engaged in deep earth exploration scientific research and college students attended the symposium.
Experts successively visited the outcrops of ultrahigh pressure metamorphic rocks at Laolongzui, Xindian, Bixiling and Hanchangchong geosites, etc., and showed strong interest in the outcrops of eclogite, garnet peridotite and jadeite quartzite, etc. in the geopark, and carried out in-depth discussions and exchanges on the spot.
Tianzhushan Global Geopark representatives held a discussion meeting with the experts at the Tianzhushan Geopark Museum. Mr. Shu Hanbing, member of the Standing Committee of Qianshan Municipal Party Committee and deputy director of Tianzhushan Administrative Committee, presided over the meeting and introduced the basic situation of Tianzhushan Global Geopark to the participants. The experts discussed and exchanged views on the protection of geoheritages and the development of geotourism, and fully affirmed the fruitful work of Tianzhushan Global Geopark in the geoheritage protection, science education and the development of geotourism, which promoted the sustainable development of local communities.
Shu Hanbing said that Tianzhushan Global Geopark had high scientific, ecological, humanistic and aesthetic value. Tianzhushan Global Geopark had spared relentless efforts to protect geoheritage, promote scientific research and science popularization and develop cultural tourism according to local conditions. It was hoped that through this investigation, Tianzhushan Global Geopark could be better shown to the world, so that the world can better understand Tianzhushan, and let Tianzhushan better go to the world.
Tianzhushan Global Geopark invited Professor Wang Qin to Qianshan No. 2 Middle School to give a science popularization lecture titled International Continental Scientific Drilling: The Key to Exploring the Deep Earth, which aroused the wide interest of all students and aroused the enthusiasm of students to learn, use and love sciences.
